Thank you to the RASC Winnipeg Centre for awarding me the 2021 Award for Outstanding Service at the last meeting. I am pleased to be recognized! Some of the services recognized were
- Webmaster 2002-2005 and 2018-22 – managed final implementation of the site and enhanced with new sections, forums, and membership management
- Membership coordinator 2019-2021
- Newsletter Editor 2019- Dec 2022, contributor of many many articles
- Dealt with most external inquiries from the website and social media 2018-2022
- Frequently represented the club for media interviews
- A frequent feature presenter and Beginner’s Session contributor at meetings
- A frequent presenter at SWSP
- Frequent outreach events and work with Scouting for events for Scouts and Guides
- Contributor to the Strategic Plan for the Centre
- Wrote initial drafts of most of the new Bylaws & Policies and Procedures as well as other Council documents
- Created the Council online repository on Google Drive and promoted its use on Council as a permanent site for records
- Telescopes for Kids Coordinator awarding 8 telescopes to kids in 2020 and 2021.
I’m currently taking some time off from active participation on the RASC Winnipeg Council to work on my new micro-observatory and writing a book on Open Astronomy due out next year but I am strongly in favour of serving organizations like RASC to the best of my ability and will definitely be part of the small group of people out of 230 members who serve.
